Let's begin with an axiom:
Ā
Your Emergent Business already exists.
Ā
It's just not...
hereĀ yetĀ š³
Ā
"So where the heck is it?"
I can hear you asking from all the way over hereĀ š
It makes sense that you are skeptical!
Let me tell you the story of how it all began for me.Ā
Ā
I think it will show you what I mean...
The year was 2022.
I had just left my PhD program, just before finishing.
Leaving behind years, decades of my life...
With no idea how to begin again.
All I knew was that my research itselfĀ had outgrown the space where it was conceived.
Over the 6 years in my program, my dissertation topic had revealed itself:
"EMBODIED KNOWLEDGE PRACTICE."
And it didĀ notĀ want to be kept in the dusty halls of the ivory tower.Ā š
It wouldn't let me stay!
Believe me, I left kicking and screaming.Ā š
I did *not* go to graduate school to birth a business.
Ā
But a business is what I conceived insideĀ š³
(if you didn't guess... this one!)
Ā
READ THE FULL PROSPECTUSMy research itself basically morphed into a business.
I didn't want to polish footnotes & court the approval of tenure committees.
I wanted to teach Artists under Capitalism to weave theory & practiceĀ on the ground.
I didn't want toĀ studyĀ emergent strategy.
At least, not only.
I wanted to live it. To become it.Ā
I didn't want to worship a liberatory philosophy inside the walls of an ivory tower.
I wanted to rebuild the world from the ground up...
Together with other artists like me.
So I left!
And to be honest, I've never looked back.
The problem was,
I had no idea how to go from what I knew...
the conviction that had led me to leave...
the knowledge that there was a gap in the world, just the size of my vision & desire...
and turn it into an Actually Existing BusinessĀ š³
As it turned out, I didn't need to "know"Ā š
Here's what happened instead...
I wandered.
I despaired.
Once in a while I posted on Instagram.
(I assume you've heard of that platform? HeheĀ š )
And felt abandonment & disappointment no matter how many of my dear friends liked & commented.Ā
(Where were the hundreds of thousands of followers I'd been promised!?)
I felt useless. Isolated.
Exactly the opposite of how I had *finally* felt in graduate school...
With a community of brilliant peers surrounding me.
(Because I had the courage & scrappiness to get myself inside the room! More on that later...)
Yet, I held on. (I had no choice...I'd already burned the bridges behind me.)
I posted on Substack...pieces of insight & inspiration when they dropped in.
I learned.
I healed.
I used up all my savings.Ā š
Finally, after a year and a half of that, (early spring of 2024),
the lovely Eva Marie Wiese, who I knew through my academic circles, commented on one of my Substack posts & asked to trade sessions.
It turned out we had been going through the same process!
In this serendipitous collaboration,
THE LYCEUM WAS BORN.Ā
We flourished in each others' presence.
We each felt needed!
We expanded each other!
We each saw, as clear as day, what enormous value the other had to offer!
In fact, part of the value we offered each other...was this questionless insight into each others' value. Both to us & to others.
Marx has a quote where he makes fun of economists who think exchange-value is inherent, independent of the beholder.
"So far no chemist has ever discovered
exchange-value either in a pearl or a diamond."
But with Eva, it was as if we were reborn with an inalienable inborn chemical VALUE that simply hadn't been recognized before.
Together, we were a mini-graduate school...
But for what I was working on NOW:
My Emergent Business.
A few months later, I had brought the first iteration of the Lyceum into the world!
It can happen as quickly as that...
when you allow yourself to be witnessed and met...
and you simply...get to work.š
ACCESS THE FULL CURRICULUM & APPLYWHY YOUR EMERGENT BIZ IS STILL...EMERGING
I know when you're becoming an entrepreneur it can feel like you're right on the edge of a breakthrough...
For YEARS.
Or you might question whether you can do it at all...
Whether it's even possible to create anything close to what you feel in your bones you were put here to build.
I'm here to tell you that
1) that feeling is normal & necessary. Unfortunately.
And
2) The reason you feel quite as down as you do is because you are trying to create something inherently relational... IN A VACUUM.
What you need instead of a vacuum is an INCUBATOR.
Early social media was an incredible incubator because (so I hear) you could post something vulnerable and actually be MET.
With interest. With sympathy. With reciprocal enthusiasm.
THIS IS WHAT NASCENT CREATIONS REQUIRE.
So if your biz still isn't here yet...
It is simply waiting on the right environment to emerge.
WHAT A BUSINESS NEEDS TO ACTUALLY... EMERGE
The online biz space will tell you it needs a hundred different tech solutions & complicated financial models & perfect messaging.
But what it really needs is this:
Space.Ā Light.
Focus. Variety.
Community.Ā Desire. Presence.
The real reason so few people actually birth the businesses that lie on their heart to create...
is because it is so difficult to give ourselves these nutrients.
ACCESS THE FULL CURRICULUM & APPLYHOW TO GROW A BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH
The Embodied Knowledge Circle is built on three principles:
1. YOU DONāT NEED A COACH, YOU NEED A COMMUNITY
I used to think I needed a coach to keep me on track.
But the truth is I just need to be in a community that INSPIRES me to reach my full potential...
just by being in the atmosphere.
When you are surrounded by people who will be delighted by what you create...
You create more of it. LOL! DUH!
2. THE WAY TO DEVELOP YOUR WORKā¦IS TO TEACH IT TO OTHERS
Your fear will tell you that you should wait to go public with your work until you have a "handle" on it.
But the truth is, you don't "handle" your work.
You cultivateĀ it.
And theĀ wayĀ you develop your work ...
Is by teaching it to others!
Your work is only growing when you are teaching what youĀ don't know you know.
I created this space because of this, too!
3. A WORKSHOP IS A SPACE FOR GENERATING MATERIAL
A workshop is not a space for:
impressing an important teacher
perfecting your output
winning the most praise.
It is a space for generating material -- both for the workshop itself, &Ā fromĀ the feedback.
Ā
The EKC is not a certification in my modality.
Ā
It is an incubator & a workshop where you create, develop, & teachĀ yours.
Ā
ACCESS THE FULL CURRICULUM & APPLYMost online business spaces will take one piece of a business & refine it into oblivion
The focus is on technical mastery & teaching you the ābestā way to do this that or the other thing.
The Embodied Knowledge Circle, on the other hand, is a place for EMERGENCE.
I took the cutting edge pedagogy I learned & used as a PhD candidate & instructor at UC Berkeley
And the curricular design necessary to locate & create new researchĀ
To create a schoolĀ specifically designedĀ to isolate your unique role in the collective
(in all its infinite multifaceted expression)
The result:
A feat of curricular pyrotechnics designed toĀ unearth *your* Emergent Business
This is how you cultivate the business only *you* are here to build.Ā
ACCESS THE FULL CURRICULUM & APPLYHere's how it works concretely:
monthly focus
Each component of your business contains the whole in latent, embryonic form.
So each month, we take on *one* component.
All our teachings & our shared assignment focus on this one component.
Over 12 months, we create & re-create the whole from every angle.
weekly rhythm
We meet every week live in Zoom to work through the monthly topic & assignment step by step--TOGETHER.
This culminates in a monthly workshop
where we do not critique, but WITNESS & CELEBRATE what we see in each others' work.
We tell each other the possibilities we see, latent in it.
To be created...next monthš
daily transmissions
We have Telegram group where I drop audio transmissions 5x/week on the monthly focus & assignment,
and you can connect with your peers anytime.
This keeps you in constant connection with your creative process.
What we practice in our year together...
Language as a Tool of Transfiguration
In the EKC, we do not just "articulate what you do."
We work on the BEING of your business -- and your art, and yourself -- through the medium of language.
Through reading, writing, and speaking, alone and in public, we transform ourselves & the world around us.Ā
COURSE VAULT: Emergent Biz Immersion
Emergent Biz, Marketing, & Sales
We donāt view business or money as separate from your art ā we view both as the natural extension of it.Ā
In the EKC, we treat business, sales, & marketing as vehicles for the transformation of self and other, and even of the products we sell.
COURSE VAULT: Emergent Marketing
Pedagogy of the Present
In the EKC, the value of your teaching doesnāt lie in some privileged information or accomplishment or knowledge.
It lies in specificity, presence, embodiment, and concrete practice.
We approach this in history, theory, art & practice in the EKC.
COURSE VAULT: Pedagogy of the Present* (*included LIVE for those who join before April 20!)
Certificate in Embodied Knowledge Practice
Your year in the EKC culminates in the opportunity to receive a Certificate in Embodied Knowledge Practice.
To do so, you submit a portfolio including your assignments as well as participating in our Experimental Teaching program--
where you teach your own sessions in the Lyceum
attend & workshop those of your peers,
and receive guidance & feedback from me.
This process is *not* about making sure you are a "good teacher."
It is about giving you the embodied experience of the messy process of teaching,
using it as an occasion to generate & develop *your* emergent body of work,
in a community you trust.

ACCESS ALL THE DETAILS ABOUT GETTING CERTIFIEDThe Application Process
The EKC is subject to an application process.
The aim is not to turn away those who wish to join.
Ā
Instead, the application serves 3 purposes:
1. To facilitate *your* self-recognition process.
In my experience, things are often said in an application that have never been said before.
It's as if the application draws these declarations out of us.
I want to give you that experience.
Ā
2. So that *I* can witness *you*
The application is a chance for me to *meet* everyone who walks through the doors of the EKC.
And even those who apply & do not cross the threshold.
I love that about it.
Ā
3. To ensure the appropriate level of trust & devotion in the space.
Within the EKC, I completely trust you to use the space as you see fit.
Therefore I ask that you state your intentions toward the space before you enter. As a ceremonial act. To indicate your seriousness both to yourself & to the space.
Ā
The application can be written in 5-15 minutes.
It is not judged on spelling, clarity, or what will "work."
It is judged only on the genuineness of your appeal to join the Circle.
